ARTIST'S STATEMENT

What fun it is to create art, but also it is a great responsibility to carry the torch. Contemporary artists are informed by thirty centuries or more of art and artifacts ranging from idolatry to whimsy, spirituality to mythology, formality to randomness, and classical to abstract.

As a student of art, even before enrolling as an art student, I took a shine to a Twentieth Century art movement I would come to learn is called Constructivism. This work was assembled rather than cast or carved. It concerned itself with the formal relationships between the parts and the whole. Meaning and symbolism, if intended at all, were ancillary.

Without embracing all the dogma of this or any other movement, I have identified with the juxtaposition of basic forms, beautiful shapes and everyday objects that make up our world. Allusions to symbol and metaphor may be present and may be ambiguous. The prospect for multiple levels of meaning may encourage mutiple levels of seeing.

My other influences are music, nature and mirth. Guidelines include respect for the materials, the engineering concept of tolerance, and a balanced palette. I ask the question,"What would this sound like if it were music?"
